Kim Barker

Kim Barker

A relative newcomer to cycling, Kim has been trasnformed from an average civilian to cyclist at mach speed. Part of Joe Petersen’s elite training program, Kim is on the fast track to becoming a cycling sensation, one pedal stroke at a time.

Now that she has her first few centuries completed, she is focused on time trialing, both solo and tandem. Because RAAM is a 3,000 mile time trial, Kim is training to perform at 110% for shorter pulls every time she is on the bike. The emphasis is on speed, power and rapid recovery.

Part of her training also includes the Planet Ultra KOM Challenge race series that consists of three, 100+ mile brutal rides on California’s most challenging courses. Climbing 18% grades and 30 mile long inclines on the tandem isn’t easy; as a matter of fact, very few tandems have completed the KOM Challenge.

Kim co-founded Team Go Ride, an all-level cycling team that rides and races to benefit the Kern County Chapter of the American Heart Association. As ride coordinator/leader for Team Go Ride monthly clinics, she gets to witness firsthand how cycling changes people’s lives. Her passion lies in heart health awareness and cardiovascular risk reduction – and she believes that cycling is the best way to live longer, fuller, richer lives.

Taking Kim from “Rookie to RAAM” is an epic journey that few get to experience. Follow her progress here.
